An Eccentric Anomaly: Ed Davies's Blog

My horizon to the west is too high (about 7°) to see Jupiter today with the Sun far enough down. Still, Mercury was visible from about 19:15Z onwards, first through binoculars then directly, before it "set" behind a fairly stationary decaying cloud street.

With my pocket camera on a tripod I got:

Skyline with wave bar and Mercury

Mercury is at upper right.

Unfortunately the gap between the cloud and the brow of the hill filled in before Mercury was low enough for another shot with a darker sky.

I've seen Mercury before a few times including two evenings last week, not to mention its silhouette during the 2003 transit, but this is the first time I've managed to get things together enough to photograph it.
